Densification of surface-modified silicon carbide powder by spark-plasma-sintering

چکیده
SiC was densified by spark plasma sintering (SPS) and the effects of surface modification powder particles on its behavior were investigated. The pressure temperature conditions set to 50 MPa 2200 °C, respectively. Specific SPS experiments at a lower (i.e. 1600 °C) performed analyze efficiency early stage densification in softer conditions. functionalization carried out grafting thin molecular layer preceramic precursor grain particles, which acts as additive without producing contamination heteroatoms since, addition hydrogen, it contained only Si C same ratio 1:1 silicon carbide. One advantages this is that reduces process begins therefore facilitates increases final parts.

Flash (Ultra-Rapid) Spark-Plasma Sintering of Silicon Carbide
A new ultra-rapid process of flash spark plasma sintering is developed. The idea of flash spark plasma sintering (or flash hot pressing - FHP) stems from the conducted theoretical analysis of the role of thermal runaway phenomena for material processing by flash sintering. The major purpose of the present study is to theoretically analyze the thermal runaway nature of flash sintering and to exp...
متن کاملSpark Plasma Sintering of Commercial Zirconium Carbide Powders: Densification Behavior and Mechanical Properties
Commercial zirconium carbide (ZrC) powder is consolidated by Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS). Processing temperatures range from 1650 to 2100 °C. Specimens with various density levels are obtained when performing single-die SPS at different temperatures. Besides the single-die tooling setup, a double-die tooling setup is employed to largely increase the actual applied pressure to achieve higher de...
متن کاملFull densification of Molybdenum powders using Spark Plasma Sintering
Pure molybdenum powder was sintered using Spark Plasma Sintering under various temperatures, and holding times, under a pressure of 77 MPa and a heating rate at 700°C/min. After sintering, a carbide layer was observed at the surface. The carbide layer thickness, the relative density of the sample as well as the microhardness and the grain size of Mo were measured. The carbide thickness depends ...
متن کاملZirconium Carbide Produced by Spark Plasma Sintering and Hot Pressing: Densification Kinetics, Grain Growth, and Thermal Properties
Spark plasma sintering (SPS) has been employed to consolidate a micron-sized zirconium carbide (ZrC) powder. ZrC pellets with a variety of relative densities are obtained under different processing parameters. The densification kinetics of ZrC powders subjected to conventional hot pressing and SPS are comparatively studied by applying similar heating and loading profiles. Due to the lack of ele...
